Legacy Sunday Events Generate Millions of Dollars in Planned Gifts

Religious organizations all across America have been waiting for an easy budget-friendly way to generate planned gifts without having to hire planned giving staff. Legacy Sunday is an answer to their prayers.

Parishes, dioceses, and foundations are using Legacy Sunday to generate millions of dollars of planned gifts.

The average size planned gift is $78,630. How long should your charity wait before receiving its share of planned gifts?

Stop Leaving Substantial Planned Gifts on the Table

How many planned gifts are you missing out on?

Planned gifts your Parish could receive using the Legacy Sunday planned giving strategy (assuming 40 Parishioners in your Parish pass away per year):

  1. With the Legacy Sunday Strategy and Just 20% of Deceased Parishioners Leaving Charitable Bequests to Your Parish
  2. Estimated No. of Bequests Your Parish Could Receive per Year: 8
  3. Multiply the Number of Bequests Receivable By:                          X
    • Average Sized Bequest Amount:                                           $ 78,630*
    • Planned Gifts Your Parish Could Receive per Year:             $629,040

Planned Giving Best Practices

A recent survey of Catholic nonprofits yielded some thought-provoking results.

All the Catholic nonprofits seemed to recognize that the largest gifts their nonprofits would receive would likely be planned gifts. However, a majority of the nonprofits had no idea whether donors had made any planned gifts to their charity.

So, what planned giving strategies were making the difference and enabling nonprofits to hit their planned gift targets?

The Psychology of Planned Giving

It's natural for people to prefer positive rather than negative things. With planned giving marketing, it is critical to limit negative imaging and avoid terms like mortality, estate, death, taxes, funerals, and the like.

However, these terms are "mortality triggers" that cause many people to run from planned giving messages. All your marketing; your website, brochures, event promotion—all of it—has to be carefully wordsmithed to lead with positive messages.

What Others Are Saying About Legacy Sunday.

“Our Diocese needed to launch a planned giving strategy that would engage donors and generate results.

In one year, Stewardship Planned Giving generated $6,900,000 in planned gift commitments. Their Legacy Sunday events and Planned Giving Workshops were very effective in engaging Parishioners and motivating them to make planned gifts to the Church.

Mark Henry's extensive estate planning background proved very helpful in closing large planned gifts. I heartily endorse Stewardship Planned Giving.”
